Stone Pillar
🪨Kamenny Stolb — the highest point not only of the Rosa Khutor resort but of the entire Sochi National Park, located at an altitude of 2509 meters above sea level. This majestic rock massif on the southern slope of Rosa Peak serves as a natural viewpoint with a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view. Extreme altitude and wild, untouched beauty: from here, you can see the snow-capped peaks of the Main Caucasus Ridge, glaciers, deep gorges, and, on clear days, the endless expanse of the Black Sea. Access to the summit is via a moderate-difficulty hiking trail from the upper station of the Rosa Peak cable car (2320 m). A suitable destination for prepared tourists and experienced hikers who wish to test themselves and see the Caucasus from a bird’s-eye view. Mountaineering equipment is not required.
ℹ️Summit features:
Altitude and scale: 2509 meters — this is the zone of alpine meadows and rocks, where the air is thin.
360° panorama: a unique view in all directions: north — to the Main Ridge and glaciers, south — to the sea and foothills, west and east — to the neighboring peaks of Aibga.
Access route: the hiking trail from the 2320 m level takes about 30–40 minutes; it requires good physical fitness as it involves gaining elevation over rocky scree.
Atmosphere: harsh, windy, and elevated.
✅Who it is suitable for:
Experienced hikers and trekkers — the opportunity to complete an interesting route with elevation gain and enjoy the views.
Adrenaline junkies and thrill-seekers — overcoming the final meters of the path over rocks provides a powerful sense of victory.
Nature enthusiasts — a chance to see rare high-altitude plants and landscapes inaccessible from lower levels.
📝Practical tips:
How to get there: Take the cable car to Rosa Peak (2320 m). Then hike along the marked trail to Kamenny Stolb (~800 m elevation gain, 35–40 minutes). From Adler or Sochi, it takes ~40–50 minutes by transport to the resort.
Footwear and clothing: professional trekking shoes with a stiff sole and ankle support are mandatory. Clothing should be membrane-based, windproof, and warm; even in summer, temperatures at this altitude can be around +5...+10°C with strong winds. A hat, gloves, and sunglasses are essential.
Best time: clear weather without clouds and strong winds (otherwise, there will be no view and it is dangerous to hike). Morning is preferable for stable weather and good light. Check the forecast and webcams before heading out.
Safety: the route is marked but passes over scree and rocks in places. Do not hike alone; carry water, snacks, and a charged phone. Ascending is prohibited in fog or thunderstorms.
🗺️Integration into the location: Rosa Khutor resort. Nearby are high-altitude restaurants, viewpoints, and summer activities. It is convenient to combine a visit here with a descent to other levels of the resort. It takes ~40–50 minutes by transport to the Black Sea coast.
Operating hours: according to the cable car schedule.
Admission: cable car ride is paid; Kamenny Stolb is free, but you must submit a notification to the rescue services via the EMERCOM phone or on the EMERCOM website.
