Agura Waterfalls

Agura Waterfalls πŸ’¦ β€” a cascade of three picturesque natural waterfalls located in the protected zone of Khosta District in Sochi, along the Agura River. This famous eco-trail leads through a dense Colchic forest to the roaring water flows, surrounded by rocks and relict vegetation. The Lower, Middle, and Upper Waterfalls impress with their beauty and power, especially during the spring high-water season. It is the perfect place for those who want to go on an engaging trek, enjoy the coolness of the mountain river, and experience the majestic nature of the Caucasus!

ℹ️ Features:

  • Nature and landscape: three sequentially located waterfalls of varying heights (Lower β€” a two-tier cascade about 30 meters high, Middle β€” 23 meters, and Upper β€” 21 meters), surrounded by sheer cliffs, mossy boulders, and a shady beech-hornbeam forest.

  • Location: a picturesque gorge of the Agura River in Khosta District, within the territory of the Sochi National Park, featuring a well-trodden and marked forest trail that runs along the riverbed and is equipped with wooden bridges.

  • Interactivity: the opportunity to walk an eco-route approximately 2.5 km one way, swim in the emerald natural rock pools at the foot of the waterfalls (in the warm season), and take stunning photos against the backdrop of falling water and subtropical greenery.

βœ… Who it is suitable for:

  • Hiking and nature lovers β€” a classic and very beautiful forest route with a moderate elevation gain, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Colchic forest and listen to the sound of the water.

  • Families with active children β€” an engaging walk along a forest trail with overcoming small natural obstacles, which turns into a real adventure for young explorers.

  • Those who appreciate coolness on hot days β€” the gorge is always a few degrees cooler than the coast, and the air is filled with healing phytoncides and the freshness of the mountain river.

πŸ“ Practical tips:

  • How to get there: Khosta District, Agura River valley. By public transport: buses No. 2, 120, 121, 125s to the "Agura" stop, then walk along the paved road and forest trail for about 30–40 minutes to the Lower Waterfall. By car: you can drive to the lower parking lot at the barrier, after which it is only on foot.

  • Comfort: the trail is rocky in places and can be slippery, especially after rain, so comfortable trekking shoes with a grippy sole are essential. For swimming in the pools, a swimsuit and towel will be useful, as well as mosquito repellent.

  • Ethics: the territory belongs to the Sochi National Park; it is strictly forbidden to litter, make fires outside designated areas, pick relict plants, or use any detergents in the river water.

  • πŸ—ΊοΈ Integration with the location: Mount Akhun and the Eagle Rocks with the statue of Prometheus are nearby. The route can easily be combined into one big hiking day: climb to the waterfalls, then follow the trail to the Eagle Rocks and descend back to Matsesta, or continue the path to the summit of Mount Akhun and the observation tower.

Operating hours: 24/7.

Entry: paid. Buy a pass on the Sochi National Park website.
